IBTimes.ID, Yogyakarta – Muhammadiyah, through the Central Board of ‘Aisyiyah, collaborates with Al-Azhar University and the Faith to Action Network (F2A) to hold the Gender Conference Women’s Rights on Islam (GCWRI) or the Global Conference on Women’s Rights in Islam. The event will be held from 14 to 16 May 2024 at the Walidah Dahlan Convention Hall, ‘Aisyiyah University Yogyakarta.
The event presented more than 200 participants representing countries from various continents including the United States, United Kingdom, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Egypt, Palestine, Kenya, Lesotho, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia, Congo, Tunisia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Togo, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Lebanon and South Sudan.
Alimatul Qibtiyah, Secretary of the ‘Aisyiyah Research and Development Institute (LPPA), in a press conference on (13/5), said that one of the five hopes and objectives of holding the GCWRI conference was to introduce the global jargon of Muhammadiyah’s Progressive Islam which highly upholds the values and protect women’s rights.
“We want to show the world that Muhammadiyah’s slogan of progressive Islam also upholds the fulfillment of women’s rights,” said Alim.
Alim also continued that he would show all participants that there is a lot of evidence from all ‘Aisyiyah and Muhammadiyah programs and activities that always place women in a fair position.
“Later in the forum I will prove to all participants who attend from all over the world, that Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah have great best practices in fulfilling women’s rights,” said Alim
Vice Rector 1 of ‘Aisyiyah University Yogyakarta, Taufiqurrahman welcomed and felt honored for holding the GCWRI event at Unisa. Taufiq said that the GCWRI conference was very relevant to Unisa’s vision and mission.
“Of course this conference is very relevant to the vision and mission of Unisa Yogyakarta as a university founded by the Central Leadership ‘Aisyiyah. “This is also a manifestation and commitment of Unisa as a center for studies and women’s empowerment based on progressive Islamic values,” said Taufiq.
