IBTimes.ID – The two largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah and NU, received awards from The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is an annual independent and international award recognizing individuals or entities worldwide who lead societies, collaborate selflessly, create human connection, and often at great personal sacrifice.
The award was given because Muhammadiyah and NU are considered organizations with large educational, hospital, and poverty alleviation networks. Both organizations are considered capable of improving the lives of millions of Indonesians.
Secretary-General of Zayed Award for Human Fraternity Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam said that in the leadup to International Day of Human Fraternity, they have three honorees who truly exemplify the values of the Document.
“The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity judging committee is privileged to announce this year’s honorees who have championed the values of human fraternity, acting as beacons of hope within their communities. Each of the honorees has upheld the noble vision for a more peaceful world and we will ensure this recognition helps accelerate efforts in their respective fields,” he elucidated.
Apart from Muhammadiyah and NU, the awards will also be given to Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, a heart surgeon from Egypt and Sister Nelly Leon Correa, a community figure in Chile. The awards will be presented in Abu Dhabi on February 5th. Viewers can watch the awarding via the YouTube channel Zayed Award for Human Fraternity.
The selection is carried out by an independent jury who are experts in the social sector and efforts to spread peace and humanitarian values at local and international levels.
